Love On the Run Reviews

Now that I'm back in public libraries, I'm looking to try some books outside my usual favorite genres. Some of the areas I was curious about were romance, sports, and novels published by "urban fiction" imprints. I was very satisfied to find Love on the Run on PW's list of the best romance books of 2012, because it's a romance, published by Dafina, featuring a star sprinter named Shayna who falls in love with her ambitious manager, Michael. Their romance is kindled as her career as a celebrity endorser takes off, but Shayna's ex-boyfriend Jarrell refuses to move on in ways that are sometimes irritating, sometimes creepy.Like other romances I've encountered, this book features a lot of scenery that's aspirational: private jets and chefs; lavish dinners; and a honeymoon yacht (that no one seems to be sailing, so good luck with that). Not only is Michael rich and powerful, he also comes from a family of winners, with a successful doctor for a brother, a devoted mother, and a father who was an involved role model up until his death. Shayna, by contrast, was raised largely by her grandmother, while her flighty mother pursued various romances of her own. Indeed the exploration of Shayna's family is the part of this book that feels least templated. I liked the portrayal of Shayna's grandmother, and the revelations about their family were surprising, although this plotline seemed to get somewhat short shrift in order to get back to talking about crab cakes and shoes and limousines. Shayna's mother, Beverley, is simply not much of a mother--not only does she not guide or encourage her daughter, she also behaves selfishly towards her. As the book opens, Beverley has married Shayna's ex-boyfriend Jarrell's older brother Larsen. This is somewhat embarrassing to Shayna, and it means that Shayna can't get away from (step-uncle?) Jarrell when they break up. Even after Jarrell (somewhat ambiguously) physically hurts Shayna, Beverley helps him in his machinations to get her back. I was troubled by Jarrell, whom I found more villainous than the author seems to have intended. In the end, he leaves Shayna alone because he has a new partner. But why not leave Shayna alone because she told him to and it's her life? Neither Jarrell nor Beverley has a moment of actually respecting Shayna as the ultimate arbiter of her own body, future, and happiness, so I felt that this was unresolved, even if the author treats it as settled when Shayna and Michael marry. As this is a contemporary romance book, it had a handful of steamy sex scenes, none of which were bad, though some of the synonyms used are pretty silly. In fact, silly is the word I'd choose to describe the sex scenes in general, which feel unconnected with the larger plot. Instead, they are connected with the characters' world of luxury. For example, when Shayna first visits Michael's well-appointed home, we hear about her "pulsating punnanny"--and she's just sitting on the sofa! (Memo to self: new sofa?) Their attraction seems to stem, not from some sense of love and understanding, but from their sheer physical attractiveness and being turned on by molten chocolate cake or whatever. When I read random books like this, I don't know how to rate them. This novel did make me rather impatient to move on, but I do think it goes beyond the standards of the genre in terms of making the secondary characters and plotlines detailed.

Race for LoveyBeing on the top of the sports management world, Michael Morgan has dealt with his share of female athletes, but his new client Shayna Washington has gotten his attention in more ways than one. Shayna is at the top of the track and field world and with Michael behind her, her brand is destined to soar. However, Shayna has a few things in her life destined to be in her future at all cost. Not sure who she can trust, Shayna puts her all in Michael, but didn’t bank on her heart being a part of that as well. Michael has his own struggles as this sworn bachelor begins to mix business with pleasure and realizes he may have found his match. Shayna finds she is in for the biggest race of her life and it’s not all smooth sailing to the finish line.“Love on the Run” is an infectious story that shadows the innocence of a good natured person forced to deal with people in her life who may not have her best interest at heart and a past that does not want to stay in the past. The story line flows throughout causing readers to want to continue to find out who is behind the deception and lies. The characters are well developed and each brings an important part to the story line. I would recommend this to readers who enjoy a little intrigue with their story. It will have you cheering for Shayna until the very end.Reviewed by: Lashonda3.5 stars

I love a alpha man. Where they at, where they at? Michael Morgan is all of that and a bag of chips. Zuri Day did her thang with this novel. It was so good I went back an re-read it again. Michael Morgan brother to Troy and Gregory. Learned from the best his dad on how to treat his woman and his mother. Shayna Washington is a triple threat star track runner that hires Michael Morgan and his agency as her manager. When the past collides with the future, where they end up (well you have to read the story.)This is a great read through the eyes of love. This story line is amazing. It's a steady flow of friendship, love, trials and tribulations. It was excellent.

Loved this story!! Micheal and Shayna's story was simply wonderful. I was so happy how things turned out in Shayna's life in the end but she drove me nuts a few times when she could not see what was going on right in front of her face. Zuri Day did an awesome job and I hope we get Gregory and Troy a story next!

This was a sweet read with a whole lot of spice thrown in. This is the Zuri Day that I have come to love. Shayna and Michael were so cute together fighting their attraction for one another, but once they came together it was explosive. I can see these Morgan men will shape up to give us a fantastic series.....I just hope we don't have to wait too long for the next one.

Love is a wonderful when two people want the same thing. When that thing turns into too much for one person how you deal with it will show your love and if it is really love or obsession.Michael Morgan is the man who is sought after by many for many different reasons. He is the man to go to if you are in sports and want to be successfully managed, he is the founder of the very successful Morgan Sports Management Corporation and he has an eye for talent. When it comes to business, Michael is all over it and whether he chooses you or you choose him he will give you quality every time. When it comes to women he also chooses quality, but it is understood that he is a busy man and doesn't have time to be held down by just one woman.Shayna Washington is an Olympic gold medalist who Michael Morgan has been following her career since her college days and wants to represent her through his management company. She is young and at the top of her track career and Morgan Sports Management Corporation is just what Shayna needs to take her and her career to the next level. But there is something that is holding Shayna back from going ahead with the bright future that is ahead of her that could ruin all of her hopes and dreams.Zuri Day captures your emotions in this book and keeps you engrossed in this story through to the very end. I enjoyed the emotional rollercoaster ride that it gave me, encouraging me to continue on to find out what was going to happen next. This is my first book by Zuri Day but definitely not my last!

Publisher's Weekly has this book listed as one of the top five romances of 2012 ....and it is. A thoroughly enjoyable book. Shayna Washington is the girl from the hood that made it out but is still caught up in the drama of those she's leaving behind. Soon the Olympic medalist is being courted by a major sports management company, owned by Michael Morgan. Michael wants Shayna's business and her body but he's already got so many women that he has to have two phones to keep up with them. And did I mention that he is FINE!!Shayna makes Michael want to break every rule but her mother, an abusive ex, and Michael's old flames are threatening their romance. I like Day's books because can recognize the character's and the settings. It's refreshing to be able to relate to who the characters are are and the places that they find themselves. You''ll find no outlandish plots and situations, rather just enough escapism to make a good novel. Well worth reading. *****Now I'll be going back to read some of the titles on her backlist.

Shayna Washington, an Olympic Gold track and field athlete, meets Michael Morgan, a Sports agent wanting to put Shayna on the map with endorsements and eventually in his arms. The attraction between these two jumps off the pages during their meeting, discussing Michael’s strategy in managing Shayna’s career. They both fight the attraction and with Michael being the Playa Supreme, he doesn’t realize he is falling and falling hard for Shayna. This couple goes through some drama and at times I wanted to come through my kindle and smack Shayna for some of the stunts she allowed her family and ex to use on her. I agree with another reviewer, if Zuri’s goal was to have readers ready to smack the hell out of Shayna, then Ms. Zuri you have accomplished your goal. This book was a great start to the Morgan Men series and I will love to see Michael’s brothers as well as Shayna’s track running mates meet their significant others and jump into love.

She hits the streets running when her life is in obvious danger by the last person she would have ever suspected. She runs from her crazy (or apparent crazy) ex to a man that has more than a dozen ex's. He is unable to keep up with the score. This 'Morgan Man' is hooked and doesn't look back. Her love came to her while on the run from another love (ex-love)This poor girl has much to contend with. A mother that needs to grown up and an ex that needs to get a clue and her future that needs to get a directory for all his ex's.Need more of the 'Morgan Men'.

I absolutely enjoyed this book ! Zuri Day can spin a tale and if you think this is one of formula book series being written you will get a pleasant surprise when you open this book. The fact that I had to work while reading this book made me mad because, this is one of those books you want to take the time to read with no distractions. I can't to see the outcome of the next two brothers in to Greg's story.

This was an awesome story. Michael was handsome, tall and a great businessman. Michael with his playboy ways found something in his clients that made him take another look at his life. Shayla was a great athlete with lots of insecurities. Shayla's ex and her mother were a lot of the reasons that she was so insecure. I loved how Michael and Shayla were able to overcome some obstacles and become a great team.

Still could not believe the stupidity of the main character, Shayna. Your ex best friend boyfriend uncle (confusing right) tries to kidnap you, stalks you, spreads vicious lies about you, breaks your ribs, and constantly threatens you and yet still you have NO problem with seeing him or talking to him because yall have known each other since forever and your mom wants yall together. This is acceptable behavior as a teenager, maybe, but not as a grown ass woman.

In this first book of the Morgan men you have an introduction to the Morgan family, Shayna's mixed up family which came with its own mixed up, and rest of the supporting cast. This was an easy read and I enjoyed the banter between Shayna and Michael, with them fighting off there attraction and how their love helped maintain the trust for one another. I was glad the author revealed the mystery about Shayna's dad, bc it had my mind wandering in a very dark place.

This was an awesome book there was never a dull moment. I was glad when she let go of Jarrell and started pursuing Michael. Beverly finally came to her senses and stopped trying to control Shayna's life. Michael and Shayna getting married at the end was great! The proposal was shocking in front of everyone. I hope there will be a second part, I would love to see what those brothers are up too?

I was reading this book and then it was over. There was no real conflict to resolve into a happy ending. There was just some shit thrown at the two love interests, some hot sex, and females referring to penis as "Master P". And yet I still liked this book. There is something wrong with me.

I loved this book. This introduces the Morgan brothers, Michael, Gregory and Troy along with their mother, Jackie. This is Michael & Shayna's story, the sports manager and Sprinter who end up falling in love. The story is interesting, delves into their backgrounds and flows beautifully.

Very good was my first reaction. It had the guy that isn't ready to settle down until he meets his leading lady but also an ex that doesn't want to let go.
