Horton is a textile expert and her skills are apparent in every work she's produced. This slender book treats the difficult subject of patterned fabrics, presenting exercises and examples that explain clearly how best to use them. It's an exciting book, as these curious and beautiful fabrics add so much to a quilt's design. Chapters on scrap quilts, Japanese quilt designs, African American quilts and others with lovely photos of antique quilts and quilts from the classes Horton has taught. Predates the celebrity of the Gee's Bend quilters and draws on the works of Roland Freeman and Maude Southwell Wahlman. Great bibliography.-- Ashland Mystery
