Collateral Casualties was an action packed novel! It is #5 in the Kate Huntington mystery series. I had not read any of the previous four novels but since it is a stand alone book, I didn't feel lost as you sometimes do when reading out of order. The author grabbed me from the very beginning and the suspense continued until the end. Now I am anxious to read more about Kate, who is a psychotherapist and her husband who is a private investigator. Their characters and their friends were very likable. It was also fun to me to read a book that took place in Maryland around where I was born and grew up. That wouldn't mean much to others but it was an added perk for me.I would highly recommend this well written mystery if you are looking for for a book that you will not want to put down. And I'd like to thank the author for giving me a copy in exchange for an honest review.

4.5 Stars. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. And I was inclined to gag, as I don't LIKE murder mysteries, and most thrillers leave me less than thrilled.I really enjoyed this book, the first I've read by Kassandra Lamb. The set-up was believable, the action fast-paced, the actions of Dr. Kate and her P.I. spouse and inner circle believable. There were love scenes between Kate & Skip, but the "heat level" was mild/spicy, rather than extremely steamy. If those scenes are what you're looking for, you may be disappointed, but I thought this story worked great without them.I got bogged down a bit in the middle; there were so many people helping and guarding and taking on a contributory role it was hard for me to tell who was on first. Kate herself seemed to fade into the background, the only action she took - cleaning. (Ugh!) In fact, I would say that the real heroine in this book (character role that would get the most screen time, if this was a movie) was probably Rose - but I liked Rose, so that wasn't an issue for me.I did figure out early on who the baddie must logically be (another reason I generally don't like this genre much), but it didn't detract from my enjoyment of the book. Despite being the fifth book in the series, it worked well as a stand alone, a sign of good writing. I'll definitely read more by this author.

Collateral Casualties is the fifth in the Kate Huntington series and Ms. Lamb has hit her stride with this installment. The mystery is revealed in the first few pages when one of Kate's former clients, fearing for his life, turns to her for help. The action-packed story pulls in a cast of supporting characters, including bodyguards, lawyers, cops, and investigators, as well as close family friends. In this book, as in the others that I've read in this series, the relationship between Kate and her PI husband Skip is integral to the story. It's a loving marriage, built on mutual respect and trust. Collateral Casualties whirls the marriage on its head when Kate turns to her best friend Rob for help, knowing that Skip's first reaction will be to protect his family at the expense of her confidentiality promises to her client. Ms. Lamb does a good job with this balancing act, adding even more dimension to the already well-crafted character of Kate Huntington. The book offers action and suspense, romance, and intrigue, as well as plenty of car chases and hot-foot pursuits. Even if you haven't read any of the previous books, this one will make a great stand-alone read. If you're looking for a series, try this one. These books will definitely keep you happily engaged on your vacation.

Sweet and Cozy Kate Huntington used to work at a trauma recovery center as a psychotherapist. Her husband is a private investigator. Kate gets involved with the new problem of an old client, and soon she and her husband are in the middle of an international intrigue. The characters talk to each other like good old friends, with fun and sweet playfulness. This does not always work, as too many casual conversations distract from character development and the plot progression often feels like the brakes are on. But, that being said, Collateral Casualties is a cozy novel, and it is certainly long enough to keep a person occupied for several hours. And luckily, when the sleuthing stress becomes too much, Kate and her husband can always have sex. It is clear that they love each other, and as they get trapped in a perilous situation, their serenity prayer is to stay together, in life or death or come what may.

COLLATERAL CASUALTIES, A Kate Huntington Mystery by Kassandra Lamb is a splendid summer beach read. While it is the first book I have read by Ms. Lamb, it will not be the last. I have already checked out the others and plan to start at the beginning of the series. In the beginning, it reminded me of the Agatha Christie’s books that started me off on my love of mysteries. Like a rollercoaster, the story may have started out easy and cozy, it soon reached pick up rapid speed after the death of Kate’s former client. A lot of characters began to be introduced, so many that I wondered if some had been in the previous books. However, I did not feel that I needed to have read those books to follow the storyline. The twist at the end of the story, I feel keep it from becoming predictable. All in all I thoroughly enjoyed Collateral Causalities.

This is my first Kate Huntington/Kassandra Lamb book and I was sucked in from almost the beginning of the story. The excitement starts off right away, which makes this is a winner for me. Whenever I laid the book down, I found myself going back to pick it up again until I finally finished it. Even though this was later in the series and I have never read any of the other books before, I had no trouble understanding the characters and storyline. This book as a stand-alone works well, but now that I have read this one, I am going to go back and read the others, starting from book 1. The book description made it sound more like a cozy/romance mystery to me, but it has an edge to it that true cozy mysteries do not.I can't sit through some of those syrupy sweet cozy mysteries. This is filled with spies, killers, bombs, and car chases. I can't wait to pick up the rest of the series.

The best yet of the Kate Huntington mystery seriesIt's really been fun to watch and author grow from one booked the next and that's what's happened here . The first book was very good and made me want to reach for the second . Each has been just a bit better than the one before it This time, the group of friends are embroiled in international intrigue. Mysterious dignitaries and assassins drive them and their loved ones into hiding. Can they stay invisible and alive to resolve the most challenging and dangerous situations they've encountered so far ?

I received a copy of this book for my honest review. This was my first book by Ms Lamb but will not be my last. I can't wait to read the first 5 Kate Huntington books. The book is a stand alone novel, but when you read it. A you will want to read all of them and the future ones. Kate, her husband and their friends keep you entertained and you want to learn about them all. I ended up letting my household chores go today because I was so involved in the book I couldn't put it down! It is a page turner up to the end!

Collateral Casualties begins very calmly and sedately. Shortly, the reader is thrust into a story of mystery and intrigue all at break neck speed. Kate Huntington and friends find it hard to know who to trust, who to believe and who the "good guys" are. This tale is definitely not predictable and if you love suspense You will love Collateral Casualties. I can't wait to read more of the Kate Huntington Mysteries.

This was a fantastic read that kept you on the edge of your seat. The characters were interesting, the action non-stop, & was not easy to put down. Was one on those book where you want to know the ending but didn't want it to end. I am definitely a Kassandra Lamb fan.

Although this book has elements of mystery, I would classify it as more of a thriller. It had me on the edge of my seat more than once and the author rocked the ending. Very clean with well-drawn characters. Enjoyed it!
