Amusing historical romanceCassie and Nathanial went to school together and he made her life a misery, pigtails in the inkwell, pouring honey in her school bag etc and now while there's no disputing the fact that he's handsome he's also always drinking, gambling or womanising so not exactly what you'd call a catch, so for the life of her Cassie can't understand why their families are trying to push them together, even though their mothers may be best friends she's having none of it, they can't force her to marry him after all so she'll find someone else.I enjoyed this book much more than I expected at times, it's very funny in places and could have a wonderful read but...yes the dreaded but, at times it's silly and not in the good way, if Nathanial likes Cassie and wants to marry her then why is he hanging around doing nothing but drinking, gambling and spending time with the soiled doves he has to know it's not exactly going to win her over or make him look like perfect husband material also while I appreciate Cassie's stubborn streak and the humour it brings it was taken too far and there's a point where stubborn just becomes plain stupid. This is a bit of a light hearted farce and not to be taken seriously, I think if I'd have known that beforehand I may have settled in and just gone with it instead of letting parts of it bother me.So if you're looking for an amusing clean historical romance which is a bit silly then look no further.

I've always enjoyed western romances and this one falls into that category. Cassie's parents are very keen for her to marry Nathanial the son of Cassie's mothers best friend. But there's a problem Nathanial is a wastrel, he's always drunk, and consorts far too frequently with the women of the town's brothel. So at first look it seems as though a match between these two is a non starter. But Nathanial is determined to win Cassie and sets about improving himself to win Cassie's heart. As for Cassie she's absolutely determined that she's never ever going to have anything to do with Nathanial least of all marry him. This was a sweet story that's a fairly quick read. I might have given it a higher rating but I found Cassie's parents attitude odd. They appeared to love Cassie very much and I didn't understand why they were so insistent they she was to marry Nathanial knowing his awful reputation. For loving parents that came across as rather unrealistic. After all what mother and father want their daughter to marry such a man, they were a bit too pushy for me. As were Nathanial's parents. Having said that I did like Nathanial he worked hard to turn himself around, as for Cassie she was right to be wary. All in all I would definitely read more from this author.

Cassie The relationship between Cassie and Nathaniel was strange and so strained. The storyline was just ridiculous, I just couldn't get over the strangeness of their interactions. I just wanted to tell Cassie to get over it, I wouldn't want to marry her after all of that

A short cutesy historical about a woman who is being pressured into marrying the boy who picked on her in school.I was torn here. On one hand I felt like the author was going for a not too deep, simple love story. However there were details that sort of dragged me out of the sugary sweetness and had me scratching my head. Cassie doesn't want to marry Nate. He's a drunk, and a gambler and a frequent costumer to the local whorehouse. Her mother is best friends with Nathaniel's mother and is desperate for Cassie to "join the families". (view spoiler)[ this didn't make a lot of sense to me. Her parents seem like nice people who truly want to see their daughter happy, so forcing her to marry someone who has such a terrible reputation didn't make sense (hide spoiler)] Her mother forces her to see Nate while her father scares away other potential suitors. Nate shows up drunk, smells terrible, and tells her not to expect him to bring her flowers. This is the H? O.o When he cleans ups (view spoiler)[ he kisses her in public, effectively ruining her reputation if they don't marry, and when she still refuses he gets drunk with his dad and they decide to arrest her for "breaking his heart". So they go to her house, cuff her, parade her around town in the paddy wagon, further ruining her reputation, and locking her in jail until she agrees to marry him. Btw, her mom and sister think it's totally OK and even funny that he did this.(hide spoiler)] Later, when she confesses that she worries he will cheat on her with the brothal girls, he tells her (view spoiler)[he won't as long as she's having sex with him. She asks what if something happens and she can't give him sex, he assues her nothing will happen. She asks, what if they have a fight, and.... he changes the subject.(hide spoiler)]I just couldn't understand some of the choices the author made with the H, coupled with the "cutesy love" vibe. Although the writing overall was good and I'd try this author again.

A heart warming story based in the late 1800's, you may require a tissue or two, as the heroine struggles to overcome deeply embedded feelings from their childhood and allows herself to feel what everyone else seems to know is there. Cassie has detested Nate since grade school, when he tormented her daily with childhood tricks, getting her in trouble often, when all she did was be a quiet bystander in his antics. Nate has always loved Cassie, but never knew how to tell her. In his youth, he played practical jokes on her to hide his feelings, and his teens, he continued, if only because of peer pressure. After leaving to work on the railroad, and finally realizing that he truly did love her, and couldn't stop thinking of her, he returned home. But her animosity continued as he drank himself into a stupor most nights and creating quite the name for himself as the town rake. But there comes a time in everyone's life when you have to grow up, and Nate found his time when Cassie's life was in jeopardy. Now the hard win her over.Loved this tale from Ms. White. She has given us a gentle love story to feel good about while embracing the times of the old west. Well written and very easy to follow, this short story will give you that warm, cozy feeling all through the read. I hope you enjoy as much as I have. Well done.

Carre White has done it again! I fell in love with this lovely story of Cassie and Nathaniel. I love how Ms. White created Cassie as this stubborn mule-headed woman who won't really accept the fact that her parents really do have her best interest at heart. Yes, they appear nosy and meddling, but it's quite humorous really.A shootout...a moment of weakness...and all of Cassie's plans to avoid Nathaniel have just gone down the drain. She's "compromised" and now it looks like marriage is best course of action. Of course, she's as mad as a hornet that the whole town thinks she's already engaged when she's never really given her consent! She wants to marry a real man: someone with manners, someone respectable, and someone who really would be a suitable husband. In her eyes, Nathaniel has all the manners of a drunk ox.A book that is definitely worth the read. I'll be watching out for more of Ms. White's novels. If they continue to be this good, I should be downloading more of her works soon!

The hero was a drunk, gambling, degenerate. But according to everyone, from her own parents, his parents, and both sets of siblings, all he needed was the love of a good woman to mend his ways. Really! You are totally ok with your daughter marrying someone who can't take care of himself and is supposed to take care of her too?! And when she was eventually coming around to the idea of courting him, he ruins it by demanding she marry him right now! And when she refuses, calls her stubborn and pig-headed and then ruins her reputation. And the way he does it, her mother and sister find funny! At least her father redeems himself in my eyes in this section. When she does agree to marry him (WHY?!) he demands a wedding in two days. No explanation, but it must happen in two days. If Nathaniel had actually made an attempt to woo her, I would have enjoyed it a lot more. Honestly, I feel Cassie should have gotten onto the first train out of there and taken it to as far as it would go.

Cassie really was a sweet romance story, as advertised. While I did enjoy reading this book (in about 3 hours), I was a little put off by how easily the strong-willed characters were changed; Nathanial went from an indifferent drunk in the first few chapters with bad habits, to changing his ways within a day. Cassie was dead set against the marriage both Her mom and Nate's mother were plotting, and was rather immature about it most of the time; then like a coin, she flipped and was all about Nate. The most enjoyable parts of this novel were the times when Cassie and Nate were together; Carre White can write a good kissing scene.

I was not at all convinced with this romance. Mostly, it was the characters themselves that took away my enjoyment. The attitude of Cassie's parents was strange, to say the least. Maybe they saw potential of Nate but why were they pushing their daughter, whom they claimed to love, to marry a drunkard. Nate himself undergoes a drastic change from a drunkard to town deputy and clean cut guy in a matter of one chapter. Cassie's stubbornness was to the point if being annoying.I wanted to like this one more but I didnt enjoy it.

A rather cute if not quite totally believable story of a young couple that were once "enemies" in school...ending up married. Although a few things happened rather too "quickly" for me to believe they'd happen in real life, this, after all is fiction so.... I did think it possible for the story to occur - in fact know that it has - but not quite as easily or fast as in the book. It was okay, but Cassie simply turned from despising Nathan into a girl who was fighting her feelings for him much too easily for me to believe. Sorry.

First in a series, Brides of the RockiesCould not find a sympathetic bone in my body for the young lady in this book. She was spoiled and whiny and a total brat. I could not imagine her getting away with her behaviour coming from a Scandinavian immigrant family! The story was a 'romance' but it took awhile to turn out that way...with some ridiculous antics along the way. I will continue to read the books in this series...because I usually like this authors' books...

A sweet, fun story.I really loved this story and can't wait until the next. This is going to be an awesome new series. Nathaniel has loved Cassie for years. Cassie thinks Nathaniel is a bully. Her family is pushing her to marry Nathaniel and he has not made the best choices in life. She doesn't think she can trust him to be faithful. This is a sweet story about forgiveness and love. There are some laughs too. Can you really be arrested for breaking someone's heart? Hmmmmm.

Carre White writes a sweet tale about Nathaniel and Cassie. Cassie is fighting the inevitable pairing of herself with Nate, as their families push them together. Nate has some growing up to do and needs to mature. Is Cassie the woman who will help him do it? Or will Cassie find a different man to wed? Again, I go between a 4 and a 5 for this one and wish I could give 4.5 as a rating!

It lived up to its description: Sweet. A very easy cute read. If you're after a sophisticated plot this is not the book for you. This is a nice little romance with nothing offensive to offer. I will try another by this author.
