I should have known before starting this that I may not like it.This book is not for people who aren't much into romance. And this book is definitely women targeted. The story revolves around Aude and hugh with their fancy titles taking place long long ago wherein Hugh has been cheated and has been banished from England by the king for forgery which he may or may not have done. Aude suddenly falls for him seeing him bare chested one day *oh somebody kill me* but she cannot approach him , her almost kinda childhood friend, because recognising him will tarnish her family's name and everything. And thus our story continues with all trial and tribulations till they meet again , if they ever.FML.Don't ask me about this again.Romance lovers, moms who need some go to romance go for it...otherwise stay the hell out.

In the interest of full disclosure I received a free copy of this book from Goodreads First Reads program. I rounded up on the stars, it was somewhere between "okay" and "I liked it". I got the impression at the beginning of the book that Aude never thought of Hugh in a sexual way, and she was surprised by finding him attractive. Perhaps that was a mistake on my part, but I got confused in the middle of the book as it seems that Aude has always found Hugh attractive. Perhaps the middle of the book was more of a revelation on Aude's part and I misread it entirely. Also I was annoyed when Hugh went to Aude in the middle of the night because he needs help for his friend who is injured and possibly dying, but instead of rushing off into the night to attend to him, Hugh wriggles his way to Aude's bed and starts a make-out session with her. I found that situation unrealistic. I also didn't care for the comparison of Hugh to Lucifer, if it was supposed to make me think that Hugh was attractive it didn't. So those were my beefs with the book. There were things I liked, I liked the bit of non fiction at the beginning explaining how things were in the era the book takes place in. One thing that can be confusing about historical fiction is knowing what really happened and what part is of the authors imagination, so I liked the fact that the author took the time to point out what is fiction and what isn't in her book. I did like the fact that Aude remained a virgin until her wedding night, unless you're reading YA or Christian fiction that tends to be a rarity in books these days, even historical fiction. It took me to the point where they got to England for me to really have a lot of interest in this book. For some reason I found myself distracted a lot while reading, like it never really pulled me in all the way. I also didn't really feel like I knew the characters very well. Like I said before, overall I give this book 2.5 stars.

HER BANISHED LORD by Carol Townend is a historical Medieval romance set in 1066 Normandy and England. It is well written with depth, details, twists, turns, fast paced and a keeper. It has trust, romance, sweet sensuality, deception, conflict, desire, Normans, Saxons, truth, justice and is heartwarming. The characters are enchanting, determined, desire justice and seeks justice. The hero, Hugh, is handsome, a count stripped of his title, lands and banished from King William's land, he is proud, determined to find the truth and clear his name. The heroine, Lady Aude, is beautiful, determined, willing to help Hugh, her brother is Hugh's best friend and is trying to help him. When Aude goes to England to declare her land given to her by an old betrothed she runs into Hugh again. She decides to help him. They declare themselves married when Aude's brother and Hugh's best friend find them together in bed (actually nothing is going on). This is a fast paced, heartwarming story of love and justice. It includes a Wessex wedding where you only have to declare yourselves married in front of friends to be married in the eyes of the law. This is during turbulent times and does call for passionate measures. For Aude has loved Hugh for years. Their attraction only grows as does the desire to find the truth and bring it before King William before it is to late. I would highly recommend this wonderful, delightful Medieval historical romance set during turbulent times. This book was received for the purpose of review from Good Reads and details can be found at Harlequin Historical and My Book Addiction and More.

I was lucky enough to receive a free copy of this book from the Goodreads drawing, and I have to say, I wasn't sure quite what to expect; only recently have I gotten into romance novels. However, this one did not disappoint: it had steamy action, likeable characters and a great plot to go with it. Often in romance, I feel things drag: either I want more plot, or I want more love scenes, and I skim pages to get to the juicy stuff. I am happy to report that Her Banished Lord had the perfect mix of both, exemplifying the genre and providing a standard I hope my future reads can live up to! Providing rich detail about the time period, and exciting characters to boot, Her Banished Lord was an adventurous, smart tale which I won't soon forget!I would recommend it for older YA readers yearning for a steamy, lustful romance, or adult readers looking for a quick read that will get their hearts pumping in anticipation as they flip the pages in earnest.Five stars.

Romance - 2.5/5Characters - 2/5Liked Lady Aude but my biggest issue with this romance is Hugh Duclair. I understand his strong physical attraction to her but he seems more like a big lug most of the time. His brute strength (by way of his Viking heritage) is mentioned or alluded to several times but his intelligence is something to be called into question. He seems to be a casual bystander in much of the intrigue, which I should really care more about than I did. Anyway, I really hated how the villagers acquiesce to his supposedly authority as soon as they are married, but then again, the relationship between the villages and Lady Aude is never really properly developed. If the focus had been on how Hugh helps Aude rebuild the fortress and the village, I think I would have preferred that storyline as opposed to tracking down a lying greedy bishop.

This was an ok book. It was written well, I didn't dislike the characters, and the ending was a good HEA. However, although I liked the story ok, I just couldn't get into it and had to really work to finish the book. For some reason it felt a little drawn out and didn't quite click with me. I did like the suspense aspect and the garrison scene did have me turning the pages a little more quickly but mostly it just felt a little...bland. Overall a good book for passing time, but not really one I would read again. Good Luck

Everything about this book was such a great read. I absolutely loved Hugh and Aude. I loved their history, the way this story played out, their relationship development and how he kept trying to protect her by "staying away" and yet how he had to keep coming back to her. I also very much enjoyed Aude herself, the way she wanted her own life away from her brother and his expectations. Overall this was an awesome read. I wanted to finish it in one setting, but couldn't.

This was another entertaining read in the Wessex collection by Townend. This time we meet Richard's abandoned lady and trace her story as she comes to claim her land in England, the land Richard gave her for breaking off their marriage contract. I enjoyed Aude as a heroine, she was well written and Hugh was a dream. A good, fun read.
